When hair is healthy, it is the ultimate accessory in and of itself. It doesn’t necessarily need to be whipped into some gorgeous updo or decorated with ornate barrettes. Healthy hair does what it is supposed to with little to no fuss—it simply looks good as is. Many believe that long hair is indicative of healthy hair, and that simply is not true. Long hair can be damaged hair. Healthy hair, no matter its length, has several telltale signs.
Healthy hair is soft to the touch. A healthy head of hair feels luxuriously good. It does not feel rough, dry or brittle. It is practically irresistible to touch. In fact, it’s hard not to want to play in a head of healthy hair all day.
Healthy hair feels as smooth as it can possibly feel. Because coily, curly and wavy hair tends to have cuticles (outermost layers of hair strands) that have naturally raised scales, smoothness on this type of hair feels differently. Properly conditioned and moisturized (healthy) hair has sealed cuticles that make it more resistant to snagging, tangling and splitting.
Healthy hair is strong hair. Healthy hair does not break or snap easily. Its softness and smoothness helps it to better withstand daily wear and tear because it has increased elasticity. Tug on a strand of healthy hair and it will spring back into its orignal state.
Healthy hair sheds normally. You won’t experience excessive shedding (loss of more than 100-125 hairs per day) with healthy hair. That means, under ordinary circumstances, you shouldn’t be experiencing breakage, thinning or balding in any area of your hair. Your hair should also be consistent in length.
Healthy hair has volume and movement. Full, voluminous hair has body. When your hair is healthy, it should not be stiff or hard.
Putting the Health Back in Your Hair
If you’re a busy lady like me, then you probably have the kind of schedule that may not always allow you to spend hours on your hair. That doesn’t mean that you can’t have healthy hair. While natural, texlaxed and relaxed hair does require special care, it doesn’t have to be high-maintenance, super-intensive, spend-half-the-night-doing-your-hair care. I created my newest collection specifically for those ladies who need their regimen to be as easy as 1-2-3.
My Green Apple & Aloe collection consists of Shampoo, Leave-In Conditioner, and Curl Definer. That’s it. This collection works together as a nutritive regimen designed to promote your hair’s strength and moisture. Its hair health-boosting power is in its key ingredients: apple, aloe, silk protein and coconut oil. Apple naturally strengthens hair roots and strands; improves hair texture; and renews the scalp with a powerful combination of fiber, proteins, minerals and vitamins. Aloe is an excellent conditioner that prevents itching on the scalp; and rejuvenates the scalp and hair strands. Silk protein protects strands and prevents scalp and hair dehydration while coconut oil stimulates hair growth and prevents breakage. I dare you to see for yourself.
