Celebrity Stylist Naiv’asha Johnson just did us all a solid by sharing the 411 on how she styled Grown-ish star Yara Shahidi’s gorgeous ‘do for the NAACP Image Awards using Taliah Waajid brand products. Naiv’asha dubbed it the "Embellished High-Trio Braided Ponytail" and I am here for this beautiful look all day. This elegant protective style can easily be worn for work, play or a night on the town and is super easy to do on medium to long hair. Here’s what Naiv’asha did to achieve Yara’s style:
Starting with damp hair on Yara, Naiv’asha saturated the hair with my Green Apple & Aloe Nutrition Leave-In Conditioner. She then used a paddle brush to evenly distribute the conditioner throughout Yara’s curls. A paddle brush is a hair brush with a broad, flat base and is a good tool to have for detangling longer hair for straight, smooth and sleek ponytails and updos. Next, Naiv’asha split the hair into quadrants, or four parts, and applied my Curls, Waves & Naturals Curly Curl Gello to each section from roots to ends.
The stylist then used a boar-bristle brush to smooth all of the hair into a tight ponytail atop Yara’s head and secured the pony with a hair bungee. A boar-bristle brush is made with all natural boar bristles to help distribute the scalp’s natural oils throughout each strand as it smooths and detangles. A hair bungee is a great alternative to your classic hair band as it is a single piece of elastic with hooks at each end which allow you to gather your hair into a ponytail or updo without pulling, tugging or breaking your hair.
Then Naiv’asha separated the ponytail into three sections and created three long braids. She finished by using a pea sized drop of my Pure & Natural Shea-Coco Monoi Oil to glaze each of the braids before embellishing at the base of the ponytail with decorative clips.
As you can see from Yara Shahidi’s end result, a great stylist equipped with great products make for a winning combination. It is always a good idea to consult with a professional stylist from time to time because they have been trained specifically to understand how the right products and hair care techniques work together to keep your hair healthy. Also, what better way is there to pamper yourself?
