Christmas and Kwanzaa are fast approaching. Besides searching for the perfect gifts for family and friends, there will be tons of parties and get-togethers to attend. Naturally, the big question is how are you going to wear your hair? We have a couple of ideas below showcased by the lovely Jori Chioma which can work for medium to long hair length. I absolutely love how Jori has the spiral curl styling game on lock. Just look at those curls. Beautiful, shiny, voluminous. That's what I'm talking about!
Roller Setting 411
In this video here, Jori demonstrates how to first roller set her beautiful natural tresses with the help of my Crinkles and Curls Natural Hair Setting and Styling Lotion and my Gro Hair Gro™ Bamboo And Coconut Milk Growth Oil. The key to perfect spiral curls is beginning with freshly-shampooed hair and being careful to wrap the hair smoothly around the permrod.
Make sure the permrods are the right size for your hair and the curl size you want to achieve. If you're doing it yourself, don’t rush. Give yourself enough time to section the right amount of hair for each permrod. (I recommend popping on your favorite bingeworthy show or movie while you get your roll on.) After your hair has dried completely, again remember to take it slow while taking down the rollers. Apply oil to your hand as you perform the take down to ensure smooth defined curls. Carefully separate each spiral to add volume.
The Piled-High Ponytail
In the event that your spirals aren’t pristine, you can always sweep them into the piled-high ponytail. Remember, you’ll still have curls and if you get some frizz in areas, the style will make it seem as if you meant to incorporate a little frizz on purpose. In the picture to the left, Jori used my Crinkles and Curls and flexi rods on a four-day-old blow out. She then sat under the dryer for 20 minutes and allowed her hair to dry completely as she slept overnight. In the morning, all she did was pile her hair into a ponytail atop her head and she was good to go.
Super Curly Faux Hawk
For this style (pictured at top), Jori first parted her freshly-shampooed hair into fives ponytails along the middle of her head to create the faux hawk. (Depending on the thickness, texture and length of your hair, you may need more or less.) She applied my Tight Hold for Natural Hair to her edges and used my trusty Crinkles and Curls to roller set each ponytail with 3-6 permrods. You can see how she sectioned and rolled her hair at the link here. She slept in her permrods overnight and sat under the dryer the next day for 1.5 hours. As she took down her rollers, she used my PhenomonOil to separate and fluff her spirals. Too fly!
